Tomatino is a Pomodoro timer for iPhone and iPad. It counts your session down on a dial, keeps it on the lock screen while you work, and starts your music with it. THE TIMER The dial fills the screen and empties as the session runs, with the time in its middle. Below it sit the cycle and the three controls: start and pause, skip the phase, reset it. On an iPad turned sideways the dial moves left and everything else stands beside it. Sessions run from 5 to 90 minutes. You set how many of them make a cycle, how long the short and the long break are, and whether the next phase starts by itself or waits for you. “Start Tomatino” and “Pause Tomatino” also work from Spotlight, the Shortcuts app and Siri, even with Tomatino closed. In Shortcuts the start can take a work length, which then becomes your setting. ON THE LOCK SCREEN Every phase puts a Live Activity on the lock screen and in the Dynamic Island, in the colour of the phase. It counts down without the app, so you can lock the phone and put it away; the time is there when you pick it up again, and a button on the card pauses the phase and lets it run on without opening Tomatino. The notification at the end of a phase is handed to the system when the phase starts, which is why it arrives on time whether or not Tomatino is still running. MUSIC A playlist from Apple Music, or a folder of files that Tomatino plays itself. The work session starts the music, the break pauses it, and after the break it picks up where it stopped instead of starting the playlist over. Shuffled, unless you say otherwise. The folder needs nothing else: MP3, AAC, ALAC, FLAC, WAV and AIFF play, subfolders count, it works offline, and it keeps playing while the device is on silent. Apple Music runs through the system playback, the one the Music app drives too, and its playlists show up once your library is synced to this device. ONE PURCHASE, BOTH PLATFORMS Tomatino for Mac belongs to the same purchase. There it sits in the menu bar and switches a macOS Focus mode with the session, which iOS lets no app do, and it drives Spotify as well. This app is the timer, the lock screen and the music. YOUR DATA Tomatino has no server of its own and collects nothing. No account, no telemetry, no analytics, no ads.
