Press Space on a developer file and actually see what's inside. Then export your Markdown to PDF or Word. Gander is a Quick Look extension for macOS. It turns the Space bar preview in Finder into a real viewer for the files developers open every day: Markdown with diagrams, JSON, XML, SQL and SQLite, .env files, YAML, Terraform, source code, archives and more. No editor, no switching apps. Select a file, press Space, and take a gander. MARKDOWN, FULLY RENDERED • GitHub-flavoured Markdown: tables, task lists, strikethrough and autolinks • Math, footnotes, GitHub alerts and :emoji: shortcodes • ```mermaid blocks drawn as diagrams inside your README • Render and Raw views EXPORT TO PDF, WORD, RTF AND HTML • Press Export in Quick Look, or open the file in Gander, and save it as PDF, Word (.docx), RTF or HTML • Diagrams, tables, math, footnotes and pictures come along. PDFs get vector diagrams, bookmarks and working links; Word files get real headings, lists and footnotes. • A4 or US Letter, with or without page numbers • The Gander window shows the whole document and reloads as you edit • An Export Markdown action for Shortcuts MERMAID DIAGRAMS • .mmd and .mermaid files open as diagrams, with Diagram and Source views • +10 diagram types: flowcharts, sequence, class, state and ER diagrams, Gantt, mindmaps, timelines, git graphs, C4 and more JSON, JSONC AND JSON LINES • Tree and Raw views • JSONC and .json files with comments (tsconfig.json): Raw keeps every comment, and Tree shows the data • JSONL and NDJSON show one line per record. Click a line number to expand that record. XML AND PROPERTY LISTS • XML, XSD, XSLT, WSDL, RSS and Atom open as a clear outline of elements, attributes and text, or as highlighted source • Property lists (Info.plist, .entitlements, privacy manifests), binary ones too, show every key with its type and value, as in Xcode SQL, NEATLY ALIGNED • .sql files open with the keywords lined up in one column, so joins, conditions, CTEs and subqueries read at a glance • Only spacing and keyword case change. Raw shows the file as written. SQLITE DATABASES • .sqlite, .sqlite3 and .db files open read-only. Your database is never modified. • Structure: the columns, types, keys and indexes of every table • Content: up to 200 rows of each table .ENV FILES, SAFELY • Every value is hidden by default, and likely secrets such as passwords, tokens and API keys are flagged • Keys stay visible. Values appear only when you choose Show values. CONFIG AND CODE • YAML, TOML, .cfg and .config files as typed, colour-coded structures • A package.json overview: name, version, scripts and dependencies • Highlighted Swift, Python, JavaScript, shell scripts and Terraform (.tf, .tfvars, .hcl; .tfstate as JSON) • Dotfiles, files with no extension, .ini and plain text ON EVERY PREVIEW • A copy button copies exactly what you see, from code to a diagram or a table for your spreadsheet. Hidden .env values stay hidden. • Code opens clean. Switch to Line numbers when you need them; copies never include them. ARCHIVES AND MORE • ZIP (including ZIP64), XIP, tar and .tar.gz contents, listed without extracting • Text inside GZIP files, folder contents, and MIDI files with play, pause and scrubbing FINDER THUMBNAILS • Real thumbnails in Finder's icon, gallery and column views: rendered Markdown, colored JSON, YAML, XML, SQL and code, Mermaid sources and archive contents • .env thumbnails show keys only, never values PRIVATE BY DESIGN Everything happens on your Mac. There is no account, no subscription and no tracking, and nothing is uploaded. Turn each preview type on or off in the Gander window. HOW IT WORKS Open Gander once after installing. Then select any supported file in Finder and press Space. If you still see the standard preview, turn on Gander in System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions › Quick Look. Requires macOS 15 or later.

• Export Markdown to PDF, Word, RTF or HTML. Press Export in Quick Look, pick the format, paper size and page numbers, and save. Diagrams, tables, math, footnotes and pictures come along: PDFs get vector diagrams, bookmarks and working links; Word files get real headings, lists and footnotes. • Open Markdown files in Gander: a window with the whole document that reloads as you edit, with File › Export. • An Export Markdown action for Shortcuts. • SQL: .sql files open neatly laid out, with the keywords lined up in one column, so joins, conditions and subqueries read at a glance. Only spacing and keyword case change; Raw shows the file as written. • XML: .xml files open as a clear outline of elements, attributes and text, with the highlighted source one click away. XSD, XSLT, WSDL, RSS and Atom files too. • Property lists: Info.plist, .entitlements and privacy manifests show every key with its type and value, as in Xcode. Binary property lists too. • Finder thumbnails for SQL, XML and property list files. • When macOS doesn't let Quick Look open a link, Gander copies it and tells you.
