Barc 25.5 fixes an issue where tapping the "scan" button opened the "enter manually" page instead. Whoops!
Barc 25.4 has all kinds of new stuff! Custom App Icons Barc Unleashed subscribers can choose from a set of custom app icons to customize their home screen. This first release of app icons adds Pride Flag, Coffee Shop, and QR Code designs. Shortcuts Enhancements The "create barcode" Shortcuts action has a preference for handling barcodes that were already added to Barc. When detecting a duplicate, Barc can either show an error (the default) or return the original barcode. A new "delete barcode" action allows you to remove barcodes when you no longer need them. Expanded Watch Complications Barcodes can be added as "corner" complications on watch faces that support them, in addition to the previously-supported "circle" complications. New Barcode Format Store barcodes in the "Interleaved 2 of 5" (ITF) format, often used for product or item IDs. Improved Accessibility Delete barcodes quickly from the main barcode list using actions with VoiceOver or Switch Control. Bug Fixes - Fixed a miscolored icon when deleting a barcode from the barcode list. - Adding a barcode from inside Barc is much faster when on a slow connection. - The barcode list correctly refreshes when a new barcode is added.
Barc 25.3 makes a few nice improvements: Improved Accessibility - Barcodes with dates and locations have more-helpful descriptions in VoiceOver. - The "photo library" toolbar button added in Barc 25.2 is labeled correctly in VoiceOver and Voice Control. Brighter Bright Mode The single-barcode view has a new button to set your screen to beyond maximum brightness, making barcodes easier to scan. Easier Imports Share image attachments from web content such as Mail or Safari into Barc to scan them for barcodes.
Barc 25.2 adds a new way to import barcodes and fixes several Apple Watch bugs. ### Photo Library Import Barc can now import images from your photo library and scan them for barcodes, directly within the app. No more opening the Photos app just to add a barcode to Barc! ### Bug Fixes - Fixed an issue where the Apple Watch complications released in Barc 25.1 never showed up. I apologize strongly for this issue; fixing it took significantly longer than it should have. - Stopped a common issue on Apple Watch where it would change the currently selected barcode occasionally. - Further tweaked the dark mode app icon.
Barc 25.1 adds some new features for Apple Watch users. Watch Face Complications Place your most-used barcodes on your watch face for quick access. Wrist Rotation You can twist your wrist to show a barcode to someone else or to a scanner facing you. The watch stays on and automatically flips the code over. Bug Fixes - Editing a barcode‘s name, location, or date is immediately reflected in the library instead of requiring an app relaunch. - The dark mode icon added in Barc 25.0 uses the system gradient background instead of a flat black background.
Barc 25.0 makes using Barc for the first time (or first time in a while) much simpler. Empty Library Additions When you have no barcodes stored, Barc gives you more information about how to get started. No more staring at an empty screen wondering what to do next. Introduction Tour Progress In the introduction tour, Barc now shows how many pages you have left, and you can now travel backward and forward throughout the tour as you like. What's New Badge When new versions of Barc come out, a small badge will show up to help you learn about the latest features. New Dark Mode Icon Barc's app icon now looks much nicer when using the dark or tinted app icons on your home screen. Shortcuts Fix The Shortcuts app now shows each of your barcodes only once in the app list, rather than duplicated across two sections. Thanks for using Barc! If you're reading these release notes, I'd sure appreciate a rating or review on the App Store. :)
Barc 24.9 is mostly just setting up for some fun experiences in the New Year! There's a few small visible improvements, though: - Scanned PDF417 barcodes may be more compact than previously, depending on the original barcode. - The introduction tour has been greatly simplified. Have a happy New Year, and I'll see you with more new features and updates in 2025!
Barc 24.8 adds support for PDF417 barcodes, used by many store loyalty programs and U.S. state driver's licenses. This release also fixes a bug with Shortcuts, where some "programmer-ese" was shown instead of proper text. Barc's help menu now also links to two new ways to contact the developer: via Bluesky and Facebook! If you have any questions, comments, or feature requests, please reach out via any of the methods provided. Yes, Chris, I did mean to release this version.
Barc 24.7 polishes up some of the changes introduced in Barc 24.6. Barc 24.6 introduced a bug with the home screen widget that causes it to draw barcodes shortened and off-center. Barc 24.7 restores the full-width display of barcodes. Barc 24.6 introduced a bunch of new actions in Shortcuts, but if something went wrong, it wasn't always easy to figure out what happened. Barc 24.7 improves the error messages that are displayed if your Shortcut fails to run.
Barc 24.6 adds a bunch of new ways to quickly find a specific code when you need it. Automatic Siri Integration You can ask Siri to open any barcode in Barc as soon as it's added; no additional setup required. Say "Open (your barcode name) in Barc" to show that barcode's page in Barc. Search Bar A search bar at the top of the barcodes list helps you filter the list to find just the barcode you need. Spotlight Integration Search for your barcodes in Spotlight to open them in Barc. New Shortcuts Actions Several new actions were added to Shortcuts to help you build your own workflows: - Create a new barcode with a given value. - Create a barcode by scanning a photo or screenshot. - Get the value of a barcode. - Get the list of all your barcodes. - Add a relevant location or date to a barcode.
Barc 24.5 contains a few urgent bug fixes: - Saving to Apple Wallet works correctly with all barcode formats. - Apple Watch sync is fixed. For users who used earlier versions of Barc, please see https://getbarc.app/apple-watch-reset for some steps that may be necessary. Thank you for your support and patience!
Barc 24.4 adds the ability to save barcodes to Apple Wallet and fixes a few small bugs. Apple Wallet Integration You can add barcodes from Barc to Apple Wallet. Barcodes added to Apple Wallet also include the locations and dates you've added to them in Barc, causing them to appear in your notifications when they're needed. Improved Barcode Widget The Barc home screen widget opens to the specific barcode you've selected, rather than opening to the full barcodes list. Improved Barc Unleashed Design The design of the Barc Unleased purchase page has been improved. Some people aren't ready to make a yearly commitment, and the new design makes easier to find the option to subscribe for a single month instead. Barcode Rendering Bugs - Code 39 barcodes with the "$", "/", "+", or "%" characters now generate correctly. - Code 128 barcodes have a corrected check digit, making them scan properly on devices that checked it. If you have these codes saved, there is no need to re-enter or re-scan them; Barc will properly display the ones you've already added. Misc. Bug Fixes - Sending a support email properly closes the email view when done. - The search bar when adding a location is fully presented when a location is already selected, instead of appearing squished. - The images created by a Barc shortcut have the correct background when requested.
Version 24.3 of Barc is just squashing a few more launch bugs: - Fixed a common crash on iPhone that happened when checking your location for relevant barcodes. - Fixed a crash that could occur immediately after opening the app on Apple Watch. - Added additional fixes around an issue that could cause the app to act like you hadn't purchased or started a trial of Barc Unleashed when using the share sheet import.
This release of Barc includes the following updates: Increased barcode support Barc now has support for for the Codabar, Code 39, and Code 128 barcode types, which covers the vast majority of reported barcode issues. Fix “Unexpected error” message When trying to add barcodes using the share sheet that use an unsupported format, Barc will now display an error explaining the situation instead of a generic “unexpected error” message. Improve Apple Watch syncing Several people have reported that getting barcodes synced to the Apple Watch app wasn’t working for them. This update will improve and speed up the syncing between your phone and your watch. Barcode view brightness Barc will now increase the brightness of the screen when viewing single barcodes, to make them easier to scan. Prevent unnamed barcodes Barcodes with no names were the cause of some subtle bugs. This update will prevent them from existing in the first place, and add a name to any that exist already.
- Fixes a issue that caused sharing an image into Barc to crash. Thanks for the bug report, Dad!
